Support Equipment
The tools, test sets, ground equipment and calibration items needed to operate and maintain the system.
What it is
Support Equipment covers all equipment — mobile or fixed, common or peculiar — required to support operation and maintenance: special tools, test and measurement equipment, ground support equipment, and the calibration and maintenance of that equipment itself.
Why your contract asks for it
Support equipment requirements fall straight out of maintenance task analysis: every task needs its tools identified. Customers push hard to minimise "peculiar" (system-specific) equipment, so justification and standardisation arguments matter in reviews.
Typical activities and deliverables
- Deriving SE requirements from maintenance task analysis
- Common vs. peculiar support equipment trade-offs
- SE recommendation data (SERD-type deliverables)
- Calibration and SE-for-SE planning
