Packaging, Handling, Storage & Transportation
Making sure every item survives the journey and the warehouse: preservation, packaging design, handling constraints, transport requirements.
What it is
PHS&T covers the resources, processes and design considerations needed to package, handle, store and transport the system and its support items — including preservation methods, shelf-life management, hazardous material constraints and transportability analysis.
Why your contract asks for it
Often treated as an afterthought, PHS&T is where physical damage, shelf-life expiry and customs/transport surprises happen. Defense customers frequently levy specific packaging standards, marking requirements and storage constraints that suppliers must plan for, not discover at delivery.
Typical activities and deliverables
- Developing PHS&T plans and packaging data sheets
- Preservation and shelf-life requirements definition
- Transportability analysis and special handling identification
- Marking, labelling and hazardous goods compliance
